What the result means

An “exact duplicate” means Mirrorbyte observed the same relative structure, file sizes, and SHA-256 content hashes at scan time. Unreadable files are excluded and called out as warnings. Files can change after a scan, so re-scan before cleanup when other programs may be writing to the folders.

Quarantine, not deletion

On supported Chromium browsers, Mirrorbyte can copy a selected duplicate into a timestamped quarantine folder, verify the copy, and then remove the original folder entry. It never empties quarantine. Browser, operating-system, permission, disk-space, and hardware failures remain possible.

Your responsibility

• Confirm that the matching folder is a backup you intend to keep.
• Check scan warnings and exported reports.
• Maintain a separate backup before moving valuable data.
• Restore or remove quarantined folders yourself.
