// folder reconciliation utility

Know which folders
are truly the same.

Compare backups, old drives, and photo dumps by their actual contents—not just names or dates. Every byte stays on this device.

Pixel-art folder towers connected by a cyan comparison beam, with amber blocks marking differences

01 / SELECT

Choose the folders to inspect

Choose A alone to find duplicates inside one tree, or add B to compare two trees.

Original / primary

No folder selected

Backup / candidate

Optional for a one-root scan

No upload. No account. No tracking.

SAFETY MODEL

Proof before cleanup.

Mirrorbyte builds a fingerprint for every file, then rolls those fingerprints into each parent folder. A folder is called a duplicate only when the complete structure and contents match.

  1. 01
    Discover

Read names and sizes from the folders you choose.

  2. 02
    Hash locally

Workers compute SHA-256 fingerprints without uploading.

  3. 03
    Review & quarantine

Export proof, or copy duplicates to a reversible holding folder.

03 / QUARANTINE

Move reviewed copies?

Each folder will first be copied and re-hashed inside a timestamped .mirrorbyte-quarantine-… folder. Only verified originals are then removed.

Reversible: restore a folder by moving it back in your operating system. Mirrorbyte never empties quarantine.
